"I finally reached the base of the Moltke Foothills. The Sea of Tranquillity stretched all the way to the horizon. Artemis shined in the distance, probably a good 2 km away... A cast field of grey powder separated me from my home." ~ Jazz Bashara

Background

Moltke is a lunar impact crater near the southern edge of the Mare Tranquillitatis. It is a small, bowl-shaped crater surrounded by a bright halo of higher-albedo material. Just to the south lies the rille system named Rimae Hypatia. These follow a course running roughly east-southeast to west-northwest, and have a length of approximately 180 kilometers (111.8 miles).[1]

About 50 kilometers (31.1 miles) to the northwest of this crater is the landing site of Apollo 11. The crater is named after Helmuth von Moltke the Elder.

The Moltke Foothills are the source of anorthite ore used by Sanchez Aluminum. The company operates four Harvesters in the area to collect ore to smelt aluminum.[2]
